چکیده

‘Traditional morphometrics’ allows us to decompose morphological variation into its major independent sources, identifying them usually as size and shape. To compare and investigate the properties of size and shape in natural populations of Drosophila takahashii, estimating their seasonal changes, we carried out collections on two different occasions i.e. winter and summer. In the present study the data clearly shows that mean trait values are higher for winter population as compared to summer population

Divergence of desiccation-related traits in two Drosophila species of the takahashii subgroup from the western Himalayas.

Drosophila nepalensis is more abundant under colder and drier montane habitats in the western Himalayas compared with Drosophila takahashii, but the mechanistic basis of such a climatic adaptation is largely unknown. We tested the hypothesis that divergence in the physiological basis of desiccation-related traits is consistent with species-specific adaptations to climatic conditions. Drosophila...

Cold temperature resistance in Drosophila lutescens and D, takahashii

Differentiation in low temperature resistance was investigated in two closely related species, Drosophila lutescens and D. takahashii. Drosophila flies at various developmental phases from an egg to an adult fly stage were chilled by low temperature of -3°C for six hours and the percent of hatching or hatchability for eggs, the percent of emergence for nonadult individuals and the percent of fl...

Microclimate Conditions and Space Use Variations

This paper is a part of study about the impact of the microclimate on the space use and the user’s behaviours. The purpose of our study is to get an in-depth understanding of how people use out door public spaces in different climatic conditions, how their behaviour and perception of the space change with the climatic variations. We have employed a multi-method approach which combines a “qualit...

The drosomycin multigene family: three-disulfide variants from Drosophila takahashii possess antibacterial activity

Drosomycin (DRS) is a strictly antifungal peptide in Drosophila melanogaster, which contains four disulfide bridges (DBs) with three buried in molecular interior and one exposed on molecular surface to tie the amino- and carboxyl-termini of the molecule together (called wrapper disulfide bridge, WDB). Based on computational analysis of genomes of Drosophila species belonging to the Oriental lin...

Phylogenetic incongruence in the Drosophila melanogaster species group.

Drosophila melanogaster and its close relatives are used extensively in comparative biology. Despite the importance of phylogenetic information for such studies, relationships between some melanogaster species group members are unclear due to conflicting phylogenetic signals at different loci. In this study, we use twelve nuclear loci (eleven coding and one non-coding) to assess the degree of p...
